Feathertail Glider
Tacker is going really well and was recently introduced to two other male Feathertail Gliders called Marko and Jacob.
When they were first introduced to each other they were very shy and stayed in their own little corners, and then slowly but surely they would work up the courage to venture closer to each other.
After a few instances of changing their minds and retreating the introduction was a success and tacker is settling in well to the bachelor group.
In the future these three boys will be introduced into the resident female population and we hope that Tacker will play a vital role in the breeding program for this enigmatic species.
Feathertail Gliders are the smallest gliding mammals on earth with an average weight of just 12g. Being so small, they often become tasty morsels for our domestic pets, particularly cats. This is why it is imperative to place pets inside during the evening to help protect our unique native wildlife.
Feathertail Gliders are also often mistaken for mice, but a closer inspection will reveal the animals have a special membrane which stretches from front to rear feet which helps them glide up to 20 meters, not to mention the delicate feathered tail that they use as a rudder during flight from which they get their name.
