Benn Bryant
Senior Veterinarian, Taronga Western Plains Zoo
Before coming to Taronga Western Plains Zoo Benn began his veterinary career working with domestic animals for 8 years. During this time Benn was also able to experience rehabilitating sick and injured wildlife.
Benn took the opportunity to volunteer at Taronga Zoo, in which then gave him the chance to enrol in a vet residency program, completing a master’s degree in wildlife medicine and husbandry.
11 years on and Benn is still enjoying the challenges of working as a vet at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. When asked what you most love about your job Benn replied “Working with and solving problems of the individual animal species and personalities makes the job so great, combined with working outdoors”.
Benn enjoys that fact that he can work with a committed team that is dedicated in the involvement of many conservation programs. Benn’s career has also led him to Indonesia where he was able to work with wild Sumatran Rhinos.
