What animals do you work with?

I work with large Ungulates mainly African hoof stock such as Giraffe, White rhino, Eland and Addax.

How long have you been working as a zookeeper/vet/vet nurse?

I have been working as a keeper for 20 years

How did you get into zookeeping/vet/vet nursing as a profession?

I have always had an interest in animals and when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped at it and applied for the position of Zoo keeper and have always been at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

What do you love most about your job?

I love all of it- every aspect! Looking after the animals in my care and giving them the best they deserve is very rewarding.

What has been the wildest moment of your career so far?

The hand rearing of two giraffe calves as well as caring and looking after a white rhino in quarantine. Not to mention witnessing all of the births of many species.

Animal Update

Both Ntombi and Forest have settled in well and are now part of the herd on exhibit at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
